What is SMARTER?
SMARTER is The Society for the Management of Autism-Related Issues - Training, Education and Resources of Brunei.

What is BACA?
BACA is Brunei Autism Centre for Adults

What are they?
They are non-profit organizations created in Brunei to help raise awareness for autistic community. Autism is a disorder of neural development identified by very slow social interaction and communication.

Why should we visit them?
It is important to raise awareness of the issue at hand, and remember why we need to continue to help those in need, especially in conjunction with UVC’s charity sale.

Dear UVC members & readers,

On request from UVC members and UBDians, we continued the second round of donation collection and charity sale today, Thursday, 21st October 2010, from morning until afternoon.

Alhamdulillah, today we've managed to raise more than double (almost $300!) of what we've earned yesterday from sales and donations. Well done to those who've donated their stuff, bought anything, and also the committee and UVC members for helping out! May God bless your good deeds, amin :)

We are looking forward to more donations, and due to demands, we will be continuing our charity sale on Saturday, 23rd October 2010, from morning till afternoon at UBD CLT foyer again.

All items are 'Set-Your-Own-Price', whilst keeping charity in mind :)

Money made from sales will go to SMARTER Brunei :)

What you can do:

(1) DONATE your unwanted-but-good items (ANYTHING!) to us, by going to our booth at CLT foyer, or email uvcvolunteers@gmail.com or contact 8613109 to set up a meeting place to give or pick up your donation items if you are not able to come to our booth on the specified date.

(2) BUY the donated items! Set your own price, but please do keep in mind that this is for charity :)

We have been receiving good responds so far, and are looking forward to more!

For our second activity this afternoon, Wednesday, 20th October 2010, from the donations and selling donated stuff, we've managed to raise about almost $100 (for SMARTER) just today alone! Well done! We're gonna continue untill tomorrow, from morning 9am till afternoon 4 pm, at CLT foyer :) Come all! Buy and donate! Set your own price, with charity in mind :)

Dear UVC members, UBD students and general public:

Donate your unwanted but good items for charity!

Give away used-but-good clothes, books, magazines, papers, accessories, shoes, bags, files, etc! We have received a generous number of donations from just a group of UVC members during the first club activity, and are looking forward to more! The donated stuff will be sorted on the day itself.

You can also buy stuff other people have donated! "One's rubbish is another one's treasure" :) All proceeds will go to SMARTER Brunei. So help us out to help them out!

Location: Watersports Complex, Serasa, Brunei

"Beach Bunch together with BARA, CARE & Poni Dive Club will be leading the cleanup on the beach and in the water! Divers and shoreline volunteers needed! Join us and help make a difference.

Six million tonnes of debris enter the world's oceans every year wreaking havoc on underwater creatures and environments every day. For 16 years, Project AWARE Foundation has led underwater and shoreline cleanup efforts in partnership with scub...a divers worldwide and Ocean Conservancy.

During the recent International Cleanup Day, they removed over 222'000 kg/490'000 lbs of debris. Debris that would otherwise continue to poison our waters and be "out of sight and out of mind" for most.

More than 90 countries collected a staggering 140'814 cigarette filters, 78'854 plastic bags and found baby sharks, fairy penguins, moray eels and sea turtles, entangled and killed by the debris. Let's join the global effort and show that Brunei's also a responsible global citizen!

Dear UVC club members, our first activity starts next week! Attendance will be taken (registered members).



Dear UVC members,

The first club activity will be held on Wednesday, the 13th October 2010! We will be making bookmarks out of used easi or bmobile cards, and the theme of the bookmarks will follow UBD's 25th anniversary theme. ((Please bring any used cards!)) These bookmarks will be used and given away to the public during the 25th UBD anniversary event :)

We would also be recycling any old stuff to make something new! Also, please bring any old shirts or pants (washed) which you don't need any more. Remember the scene in the latest Twillight movie where Bella's mum gave her a graduation present of a blanket made up of her old clothes? :) We have that in mind! All the tools will be provided, so bring your creativity and spirit! :)

Members are also encouraged to bring old-but-good plants in pots during the first activity. The pots will be painted, and later on donated for charity :) Nothing brings life to a place than life (in this case, living plants!) itself :)

We will also be starting a collection drive, where old-but-good stuff (ANY stuff!) are donated by the whole of UBD (and outside), and these stuff will be given to various bodies as well :) You'll leave with more than you came in with, heart enlightened and richer in good deeds! :))) You can also contact us through 8613109 or 8721234 if you want to give the stuff to use personally, or e-mail uvcvolunteers@gmail.com, if you want to set up a meeting for the collection. So start rummaging through your old piles now, donate stuff and do charity without doing anything much! :)

In summary, members (and also non-members if interested) need to bring:

-Used easi + bmobile cards + anything possible (to make awesome bookmarks!)
-Old t-shirt or pants (for a stitching project! :))
-Unwanted plants in pots (pots painted to be donated!)
-ANYTHING you want to donate (collection drive starting!)

All donations would be greatly appreciated! :) Thank you!
