Hello volunteers,

Just a post to share with you all. You probably know about Pakistan flood disaster. Yes, this is like many others- Katrina, Tsunami, Haiti, China. But i think, the only difference is, its Pakistan, its Ramadhan and most if the victims are celebrating ramadhan in misery. We are truly blessed to celebrate our ramadhan with families and friends and in a very comfortable conditione while they are being tested with so many challenges. Now what comes after the flooding? Flood does destroy many things, homes, animals, habitats and etc but after that then what? You have to understand that when a large body of water is still, waterborne disease might spread. Truly there are food shortages and personally i think that would be overcome with the coming of aid from all over the world but what matters the most is the effectiveness of distribution. Regardless of the amount of money donated, if its not distributed properly it would be useless.

Kind of amazing how songs like we are the world for Haiti gets big publicity and this doesn't. Listen to the song by Sami Yusuf- Hear your call.

Seeing is believing. Help them believe.

Everyday, when you wake up, you see it is beautifully dark with sparkles outside the window. While having your breakfast you see the beautiful sun slowly rising, shining brightly over your beautiful garden, where flowers are blooming. Red roses. Purple morning glory. pink hibiscus. They say seeing is believing. I believe the sky is blue, the clouds are white. I believe because i saw.

Imagine, the feeling, if you lose the ability to see all the beautiful wonders of the earth.

So often we were given the statistics for world poverty, hunger but how many of you know that every five seconds, one more person somewhere in the world is going blind? There are 45 million blind people in the world. Yes.. 45 people who can't see how you smile, who can't go to places without being helped. Visual impairment does not mean total blindness. Understand this: there are different degrees of blindness. Anyone who can't live without their visual aids, falls in the category too. That includes you if you wear any form of visual aid. And so are 314 million people in the world having serious visual impairment. 90% of blindness are from developing countries, which means poverty has prevented them from getting proper treatment.

Futhermore, 80% of these blindness are curable.

Seeing is believing is a global initiative to reach 32 million blind people, a collaboration with Standard Chartered worldwide. Last Friday, some of the UVC committees had the privilage to join the fundraising event, graced by His royal Highness Prince Azim and Her Royal highness Princess Fadzillah. The event was filled with tips on how to helped the blind and a twist to our afternoon tea- a taste of how a 'dine in the dark' would be. Each pair of attendees were given a mask, where one would wear it, and the other would guide the "blinded" person to have their food. The event was also hyped by auction of top three winning photos of the seeing is believing photography competition and air tickets. All proceeds from the event tickets and the auction goes to the seeing is believing fund for blindness.
