1st Earth Hour ever by UBD!

Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund) and is held a day on March annually. This year, for the first time, University Brunei Darussalam Volunteering & Charity Club celebrating Earth Hour on 31st March, 8:30pm to 930pm.

UVC decided to have an inspirational but yet funny movie watching, The Lorax at Lecture Theather 1, IBM  Building starting at 3:30pm until the movie ends then continue on to celebrate it on the parking area IBM of the Official Earth Hour UBD with the opening ceremony by the Dean of Students, Dr. Ramli.

the committees: nadzirah, qeelah, faaizah, fiqah

The Lorax is about a boy who visits a town that was once full of beautiful Truffula Trees. The town is invaded by the evil Once-ler, who chops down all of the trees to make Thneeds garments. The Once-ler is driven by money and greed, so he pays no attention to The Lorax, who pleads to keep the trees alive.  Soon a factory is built and every living Truffula Tree is cut down, leaving the town empty and desolate.  The Lorax and the other creatures leave the Once-ler behind to find a new home, so he’s left alone in the midst of his own destruction. The story ends with the Once-ler giving the boy the last Truffula Tree seed, which will hopefully be used to bring the trees back.

Around 6pm, UVC's logistic help the organiser of The official Earth Hour UBD (Executive of International Relation and Sustainable) with the logistics work, while the other UVC-ians set up a booth to sell drinks and food.

The highlight of the event was around 830pm when the lights of IBM building and the rest of UBD buildings were turn off to reduce electricity consumption. the rest are the pictures of the committees of UVC involve in the UBD Earth Hour.

Together we save the earth for a better place to live in!
